Alimony
Alimony is support one spouse pays to the other spouse. The Court considers many factors in
determining whether to award alimony.
Such considerations include, among other things, the financial needs
of the parties; the parties’ income, assets and available resources; and the
facts surrounding the breakdown of the marriage. A Court may award temporary alimony to maintain the status quo
during the pendency of the divorce action.
In its Judgment of Divorce, a Court may award a spouse rehabilitative
alimony so that he or she is able to receive work training or education. In its Judgment of Divorce, a Court may
award a spouse indefinite alimony in situations where one spouse is
un-trainable or disabled.
